Agony and Ecstasy as courageous Chris O’Hare fights through the pain barrier to claim Euro bronze – Daily Record

GUTSY Chris O’Hare crashed through the pain barrier to land 1500metres bronze at the European Indoors.

The 24-year-old Scot had his ankle slashed on the opening bend in the final and needed four stitches to close the bloody gash after the race in Prague.

But O’Hare refused to buckle under massive pressure on the final lap and matched his third place outdoors at the 2014 Euros in Zurich.

He said: “In the first five metres I got stood on from behind. I thought, ‘That’s not handy’ but I’ll get some stitches and I’ll be all right.

“For the first couple of laps I was like, ‘This feels more than a scratch’ but it wasn’t going to stop me.”

It was a gritty showing from O’Hare as he trailed home Czech favourite Jakub Holusa who overtook Turkey’s Ilham Ozbilen on the line .
